Our Story
Christyann Brown has had a passion for sewing since she was a child, and it was during her tenure as a student studying Fashion Design and Patternmaking at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in NYC that she developed her love for vintage clothing. The 1950’s era is her particular favorite and influences many of her designs.
After years of working in the fashion industry followed by working independently as a custom bridal and formal attire seamstress, Christyann was excited to launch T’s Retro Revival on Etsy in 2019. This website and selling in person at craft fairs followed in 2022. Being a small woman herself, Christyann decided to dedicate T’s Retro Revival to providing other small women with classic fashions not available in their size at the typical women’s clothing store. Additionally, many of the styles are made in a way that they are adjustable to give the look of a custom fit.
Her daughter, Kaitlin, also has a degree from FIT for Textile Design, where she had the opportunity to see first-hand how toxic the fast fashion industry is for the environment. Being a socially conscious individual, she did not want to contribute to the problem.
Between Christyann’s fashion design experience and Kaitlin’s vast knowledge of environmentally friendly screen-printing practices, they have collaborated on the Lookout Clothing Co. line for young children and infants.
Our Materials
At T’s Retro Revival, Christyann likes to use unique fabrics that are made of natural or naturally derived fibers that are environmentally sourced wherever possible. The cotton prints are hand block or Ikat printed fabrics from India. Sometimes unusual organic fibers are used including soya fiber and silk/cotton natural vegetable-dyed fabrics.
Using Kaitlin's Textile Design and Screen-Printing skills and Christyann’s Patternmaking and Seamstress skills, they produce their garments at Lookout Clothing Co. from start to finish using only environmentally friendly practices. They use GOTS certified fabrics as a base to screen print Kaitlin’s original designs using environmentally friendly inks and screen emulsion. Christyann then turns the printed yardage into adorable fashions for infants and toddlers. The 100% Organic Cotton T-shirts and onesies are individually hand screen printed with original graphics designed by Kaitlin onto ethically sourced pre-made garments.
